Apparently, that was an old email back in August 2003. If ever you received it again today with a date of the occurence changed today, August 27, 2010, delete it since it’s just a hoax. In fact, reported that there is no such two moons that will occur in the sky today, August 27, 2010. This rumor, as stated, started in 2003 and has since reoccurred at the end of August every year since. NASA even stated that at the sunset today, go outside and face west. The bright light you see shining through the twilight is lovely Venus. Grab a pair of binoculars and scan the sky around Venus. A few degrees to the right, you’ll come across a little orange star-like object. That is the red planet Mars.

After that phenomenal event last August 2003, Mars had another close encounter with Earth in the year 2005. However, that event took place in October and not in August. It also did a close approach in December 2007 but not as close as what happened way back in August 27, 2003. According to astronomers, not until 2018 will our view of Mars be similar to the one that was available in 2003 and it won’t be until 2287 will Mars come closer to Earth than it did back in 2003.

Former Republican party chairman comes out as gay

Ken Mehlman, the former Republican party chairman and aide to George Bush, has revealed he is gay.

As a senior Republican figure with a high public profile, Mr Mehlman's admission of his homosexuality is a bold move at a time when the Republican party are asserting their opposition to the legalisation of same-sex marriage and the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

When Mr Mehlman was asked by the Atlantic magazine to explain how he reconciled his sexuality with the Republican party's "gay-baiting tactics", he replied: "I can't change the fact that I wasn't in this place personally when I was in politics, and I genuinely regret that. It was very hard, personally."

It was during the period 2005-2006 when Mr Mehlman was chairman of the national Republican party that strategists used state referendums banning gay marriage in order to galvanise their voters.

Mr Mehlman said that his move was an important one in order for him to be able to openly support the legalising of marriage for LGBT Americans.

He added: "It's taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life . . . I've told my family, friends, former colleagues, and current colleagues, and they've been wonderful and supportive . . . It's something I wish I had done years ago."

He also said that he had been working with the American Foundation for Equal Rights, who back the legal challenge to California's Proposition 8 which bans gay marriage in the state, by encouraging Republicans to donate funds.

Yahoo Finalizes Transition to Bing

After about a week of testing, Yahoo and Microsoft just announced that they have now finalized the transition from Yahoo's own search engine to Microsoft's Bing. Microsoft now powers all of Yahoo's free, organic Web, image and video search results in the U.S. and Canada, though Yahoo will continue to offer its own set of search tools like Site Explorer and Search Monkey. The fact that Yahoo search is now "Powered by Bing" marks the end of a one-year transition period. Last July, after two years of back and forth, Microsoft and Yahoo agreed on a 10-year search and advertising deal.

According to the latest data from comScore, the combined search engine market share of Yahoo and Bing in the U.S. is now about 28%. Google, of course, remains the biggest search engine on the market with a market share of 65.8%. It remains to be seen how Yahoo's users will react to this change, but given the quality of Bing's search results, we don't expect any major backlash against this change from Yahoo's users.

For Microsoft, finalizing the Yahoo transition puts Bing in a far more competitive position than ever before. With close to 30% of the search market, Bing is now a force to be reckoned with.

Even if you don't regularly use Microsoft's search engine, Bing's history of continuously improving the search experience for its users (especially by giving users access to the information they are looking for with fewer clicks) is keeping Google on its toes and driving it to improve its search products as well.

Is Facebook Down for All? Another Facebook Error

 

There have been dozens of reports both on Twitter as well as other media outlets that Facebook has been experiencing numerous problems in some areas of the world. The main Facebook error seems to be one which has to deal with posting status updates and uploading new images. One Facebook member reported that he got the following error while trying to post a new status update to his wall, “Sorry, an error has occurred. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can. Go Back.”

Needless to say, I’m sure technicians are well aware of these issues and will likely correct them within hours at most. Facebook has been known to have errors as well as downtime like most rapidly growing internet sites out there. Golf great Tiger Woods and his former wife Elin Nordegren are officially divorced. That means Tiger can go back to propping up his inflated ego with living blow up dolls, and Elin can move on with her life.

“TMZ has obtained the divorce documents filed in the Tiger Woods split … in which the marriage is described as “irretrievably broken.”

According to the docs, Tiger and Elin Nordegren reached a settlement agreement way back at the beginning of July — July 3rd and 4th.

Elin says in the docs that she wants her maiden name restored — Elin Maria Pernilla Nordegren.

According to the documents, both Tiger and Elin have each completed a 4-hour parenting course.

UPDATE: We’ve also obtained the final judgment papers. It states the marriage “is hereby dissolved because it is irretrievably broken.” 1. In addition, Elin’s request to restore her maiden name was granted.”
